Our Activities

Department of physics provides training of teachers of physics for secondary schools in combination with mathematics, chemistry, biology, informatics or fundamentals of technology. It also ensures bachelor and master studies of "Computer modelling in physics and technology".

The department collaborates with Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of Charles University Prague, Faculty of Biological Sciences of University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of Czech Technical University in Prague, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of Technical University of Liberec, Pädagogishe Hochschule Freiburg (Germany) and Pedagogical University Czestochowa (Poland), University Paris VI (France), Gent University (Belgium) and Welding Research Institute in Bratislava (Slovakia), Institute of Solution Chemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Ivanovo near Moscow, and with all departments providing teacher training in the Czech Republic.

Professional and scientific activities of the department members concern:

  • low temperature plasma physics
  • plasma chemistry
  • solar physics
  • physics of thin films and composites
  • computational physics
  • theoretical physics
  • didactics of physics
  • computer application in teaching

Department members were holders or collaborators of many grants in past years. The most important ones are:

  • Project COPERNICUS 94 CIPA-CT94-0183: "Industrial application of low temperature plasmas".
  • Project INCO - COPERNICUS ERBIC 15 CT98 0805: "Development of Plasma-Based Products and Processes".
  • Grant from programme "Advancement of information infrastructure for research and development" of the Ministry of Education of the Czech Republic INFRA (2) nr. LB98224: "Building up a supercomputer terminal workplace at UJEP".

Regional collaboration:

  • The department of physics is engaged in care about talented pupils. Each year it organize together with Association of Czech Mathematicians and Physicists the Physical Olympiad and a week's summer school of young physicists.
  • The department offers a course of lectures on didactics of physics to teachers from the region.
  • The department offers a research with modern technologies (AFM, STM) for firms in the region.
